STMA Middle School East Boys Basketball Information
Practice: First day of practice is Tuesday, January 3rd. Practices are Monday through Thursday from after school until 5:00pm at the MSE gym. Please have your ride pick you up at East by 5:15 each night.
What to Bring: Jersey’s will be provided. Returning 8th grade players should use their jersey from the previous year. Players will need practice shorts, basketball shoes, water bottles. We will have basketballs, but players are welcome to bring their own as well.

Sports Physical: Players need to have a sports physical on file in the activities office. Sports physicals are valid for three years. You need to have a sports physical on file in order to register through SmartSchoolK12 in ParentVue.
Registration: All Middle School sports registration is done online using ParentVue. The cost for registration is $187.50.
STMA has a new online registration system, SmartSchoolK12 also known as Affinety. You will need to create a new account and add a funding source before registering. Follow the instructions on the links below. Please follow both sets of instructions to help avoid confusion. Please note, when you register for activities one of the questions asks about online school. In this case, online refers to being enrolled in a fully online school such as STMA online.
Behavior: As an athlete for Middle School East, our athletes are ambassadors of our school. As an ambassador of our school, we expect our athletes’ behavior to be exceptional. We want our athletes to be positive role models for others to see and follow.
Important Policies to remember:
- Students need to be passing all of their classes to be on the Basketball team. The MSE activities director will check to see if players are passing all of their classes at mid-tri and/or the end of the trimester.
- Students need to be in class for five full periods of the day in order to practice or compete that night. Students with a doctor’s appointment may be excused from this requirement if they have documentation from the doctor referencing the appointment. Make sure to bring this note from the doctor to MSE attendance secretary Ms. Bergen.
- Your coaches will expect the players to be at practice every day.
- Missed practices may result in reduced playing time.
- We will bus you to and from all road games, but you may ride home with your parents after a game rather than ride the bus back to school. You need to have your parent sign out with your coach if you ride home with a parent. If you are planning to ride home with someone else’s parents, your parents need to notify Mrs. Schleicher of this one day in advance.
- Families complete daily self health checks.
- Staff complete daily self health checks.
- Stay home if you are sick.
MSE Boys Basketball Highlights from February 2nd against Big LakeThe 8th Grade Boys Basketball A team rebounded from a rough first half to take down the Big Lake Hornets 51-35. Thomas L. led the comeback with 13 points and 5 assists. LaRon M. and Jared B. each had 9 points and Cooper H. added another 8. The next game will be Tuesday, February 7th at Becker.
The 8th grade Knights Boys Basketball B team took on the Big Lake Hornets and won a thriller 28-25. The Knights were led by Zach B. who had a team high 14 points. Sam G. also chipped in with 9 points. The Knights take on their inner-city rivals Middle School West on Monday, February 6th.
The Knights 7A Basketball Team faced Big Lake for the second time this season, coming up a bit short once more. But don’t let the loss fool you because STMA played a very good game and walked away knowing they gave their best effort on the court. Each Knight that suited up scored at least 2 points and were led by Aaron C.’s 13 points and Finn D.’s 10 points. Finn D. has scored in double digits in 5 out of 6 games this season. Up next for the Knights is a trip up to Becker. The Knights defeated Becker 37-32 earlier this season.
The Knights 7B Gold Team squared up against Big Lake for the first time this season and fought a good battle. Though they came up short, they have shown much improvement on the defensive end and have become a scrappy, well-rounded team. The Knights got 7 points from Cooper W., 4 points from Finn O., and 4 points from Lucas D. Up next for the Knights is a visit from STMA West. The Knights are looking to even up the series with their inner-city rival. Go Knights!
MSE Boys Basketball Highlights from January 31st against BuffaloThe Knights were back on the court Tuesday as they took on the Buffalo Bison. From the start of the tip, the Knights went on a run, led by Thomas who had 25 points, a monster game in the paint by Jared who had 13 points, and LaRon who had 12 points. They were too much for Buffalo to handle. They continued to increase their lead throughout the game with a 64-43 win. Adam and Bayler both had 4 points apiece, Andrew ended up with 3 points, Cooper had 2 points, and Lane with 1 point. The Knights improved to 4-1 as they hit the road this Thursday to take on the Big Lake Hornets.In the second game of a back-to-back, the 7A Knights Boys Basketball Team fell to the Buffalo Bison 33-47. The Bison played good defense in the first half, but the Knights came out swinging in the second half and cut the deficit. Led by Finn D. and Zach R., who had 8 points apiece, the Knights fought but ultimately came up short.
The Knights Boys Basketball 7B Blue Team doesn’t give up. Despite falling to the Buffalo Bison 39-46, the Knights kept their streak of good team defensive performances. Jon A. (11 pts) and Nohe O. (10 pts) led the offensive charge and 8 out of 10 Knights scored at least 2 points.
The Knights Boys Basketball 7B Gold Team fought a good battle against the Bison but lost a close one by a score of 31-35. Both Finn O. and Cooper W. scored 9 points, while Parker L. contributed 8 points himself. Cooper also had a fantastic block that resembled one from LeBron James. Zach N. hit a big three-pointer and the Knights played a good game overall. This team has got heart! Go Knights!
MSE Boys Basketball Highlights from January 30th against BeckerThings were rough for the Knights 7A Boys Basketball team on the defensive end during the first half against the Becker Bulldogs. Becker was up 20-15 at the half, but the Knights clamped down on defense and outscored the Bulldogs 27-15 in the final frame, notching their second consecutive win. Good defense goes a long way. Finn D. led the charge for the Knights with 14 points and Blake Bauer hit a nice three late in the second half that sealed the win for STMA East. Each Knight that suited up scored at least 2 points for an all-around team effort. Up next for STMA East is a visit from Buffalo Middle School on 1/31/2023. Go Knights!After last week’s tough loss, the Knights 7B Gold Boys Basketball team bounced back to defeat the Becker Bulldogs 32-30 in a nail-biter. The Knights took a 26-16 lead into the second half, but the Bulldogs got some easy buckets to cut into the lead. When the Knights hunkered down on defense and played more aggressively, they kept the Bulldogs scoreless for about 3 minutes late in the final frame, ultimately leading to the victory. Jayden L. and Finn O. each scored 8 points for the Knights, while five other players scored at least 2 points. Good defense goes a looooong way. Up next for STMA East is a quick visit up to Buffalo Middle School on 1/31/2023. Go Knights!
The Knights 8A Basketball Team took on the Bulldogs from Becker Monday night. The Knights won 51-26. The Knights jumped out to a big lead, improving their record to 3-1.
MSE Boys Basketball Highlights from January 26th against North BranchThe Knights 8A Basketball was back in action on Thursday after a tough loss to Middle School West. The Knights took on North Branch and what a game it was. The night jumped out to a big lead and never looked back winning the game 64-21. They were led by Jared, who had 14 points in the paint, followed by Thomas with 13 points and Adam with 12 points, and LaRon added 6 points. Bayler and Gavin both had 4 points apiece. Cooper, Andrew, and Lane all had 3 points apiece, and Patrick with 2 points. The 2-1 Knights are back in action at home on Monday against the Bulldogs from Becker. Great job guys, Go Knights!The 8B Knight’s basketball team took on the North Branch Vikings and pulled out a 43-36 victory. The Knights were led by Zach B. who had a team high 15 points. Also, Aiden S. came up huge with 4 points at the free throw line to seal the victory for the Knights.The Knights 7B Blue Basketball Team squared up against the North Branch Vikings yesterday and bounced back in style with a 31-22 victory. While Note O. (11 points) and Jon A. (8 points) had great individual performances, it was ultimately the entire team’s hounding defensive pressure that brought them the win. Kaden O. also joined in on the scoring party with his first points of the season! The rim was unkind in the first half of the game to both teams, but the Knights kept at it and the shots began to fall. Kelton S.’s glue-like defense surely made the Vikings feel a bit claustrophobic, which was fantastic to see. Up next for the Knights is a visit from Buffalo on Jan 31st. Go Knights!
MSE Boys Basketball Highlights from January 24th against MSWThe 7th Grade East Blue B Boys Basketball Team matched up against STMA West in a tightly contested game. East carried a 12-10 lead into the second half, but despite their solid defense, they fell to West 29-27 on a shot by West with about 3 seconds remaining. East knows how much good defense can impact a game, and they look forward to their matchup against North Branch Middle on Thursday. Go Knights!The 7th Grade East Gold Team played their first game of the season yesterday against rivals STMA West. West was a worthy opponent and led at the half. East tightened up their defense in the second half but ultimately came up short in a 37-19 loss. Jayden L. had a few timely buckets toward the end of the contest and Cooper W. had a huge block late in the second half that fired his coach up! Gold will face Becker on 1/30/23. Go Knights!The 8B Knights boys basketball team took on their inner city rivals took Middle School West and lost a close one 44-36. The Knights trailed Middle School West by 2 at halftime but could not get over the hump to take the lead. Aiden S. led the Knights with 18 points. Zach B. also chipped in with 7 points as well. The Knights are back home Thursday, January 26th as they take on North Branch.
MSE Boys Basketball Highlights from January 17th against Big LakeLast night, the Knights 8th grade A team hosted the Big Lake Hornets, and what a game it was! The Knights jumped out to an 11-0 run before the Hornets even got on the board. The Knights led the whole game, never looking back. Thomas led the way with 15 points, Jared finished with 8 points, and LaRon had 10 points. Adam and Patrick both had 2 points. The Knights won the game 37-26.The 8B Knights Boys Basketball team started the season off with a win against the Big Lake Hornets with a final score of 42-24. The Knights were led by Baylor L, who had a team high 19 points, Aiden S. chipped in with 8 points followed by Brady A. with 6 points and Jacob K. with 5 points.The Knights 7th Grade A Basketball team played an intense game against the Big Lake Hornets last evening. Though they fell to the Hornets 40-47, The Knights fought back from a double-digit deficit to pull within 3 points by half time. Each of the eight Knights that suited up scored at least 2 points and were led by Finn D. (10 pts), Aiden E. (9 pts), and Zach R. (8 pts). Up next for the Knights is a long trek to STMA Middle School West! Go Knights!The Knights 7th Grade, Blue looked strong against the visiting Big Lake Hornets last night in a 41-9 victory. Jon A. scored 16 points, but what truly brought us the victory was the Knight’s hounding presence on the defensive end. Great passing and fantastic defense go a long way! Go Knights!
